... I had a bunch of fun recently making something I have not made in a long time -- a baby blanket!... Along with other kiddie items, I used to make a lot of these which I then sold at farmer's markets and in local shops; in fact, my crafty world back when my kids were young was all about makes for babies and children. But, as my kids grew older, I moved away from this kiddie niche until this summer when good friends on the lake became grandparents for the first time; remembering that I stored a bunch of cut squares from my baby-blanket-making days here at the lake, I dug them out and, voilà...
... a blankie for a little baby boy was made!...
As you can tell, I used a medley of vintage and new prints, and backed the patchwork with some lovely plushy cotton chenille which I rather luckily had a bolt of at the lake, ready to be used... This is how I've always backed my baby patchworks: cotton chenille instead of batting and backing fabric layers -- nice and simple,...
... as well as being cushy and soft against Baby's sweet skin...
In fact, I forgot how lovely and simple a cotton chenille backing could be, so I think I just might use it to back a few patchworks I've made recently which are waiting to be finished...
And, to keep with the simplicity of the blankie's look, I tied the two layers together with some 4-ply cotton yarn...
I have to confess that it was rather nice (albeit sentimental -- in a good way though...) to revisit this sweet chapter of my crafty life, marveling at how I moved from this very kiddie-centric time in my life to another very different one, without much fanfare or notice at the time; it just happens and then, when you suddenly look back years on, you are struck by how your day-to-day context has changed rather dramatically and is inspiring your creativity in a very different way... 'Hope you're all doing well in these crazy times of ours, and thank you so much for popping by!...
