...is what I've been up to lately -- how about you? Have you been making masks? I was going back and forth on whether to make some, but I finally decided to go for it when our federal government recommended wearing them... One of the articles I read written by a scientist recommended this pattern from Joann's website which I decided to use with one change: I added another layer of fabric, so instead of using two layers of quilting weight cotton, I used three, which is something I heard recommended by another scientist on a podcast... Yes, we are definitely hanging on all our scientists' words these days for any bits of helpful advice and hopeful news, aren't we ?!... (Well, at least most of us are, I think...)
So, I put all the other things I had been working on to the side, dug into my baskets of scraps and started cutting, cutting, cutting, and then sewing, sewing and sewing,,,
After my brother who is a doctor in Montreal saw my first batch (above), he asked me whether I could make some for him and his hospital community for non-medical use such as grocery shopping; So, I dug back into my baskets (looking for a few non-florals this time!...) and started cutting and sewing again... I ended up making about a couple dozen which are on their way to him as I write this...
I have another pile of cut pieces to make another 50 masks, but I think I will take a little break for now because I'm itching to make other things like maybe a patchwork or two, or some new crochet-trimmed pillowcases...
I hope you are all doing well, staying healthy and keeping busy... As I tell my family, it is a good thing to be a crafty person in these days of self-isolation! I hope you are pursuing some yummy crafty ventures as we speak -- thanks for popping by!...
Such pretty masks. I've not made any yet as I don't think Dr. Bonnie Henry is recommending them.
