...while summer was still in full swing when I last posted, as I look out my window now, I can already see the first signs of autumn... It's definitely been a little while since my last post, but my end of August and first half of September have been somewhat busy: two of my daughters left the nest this September, one has gone to university at the other end of the country in Ontario, and the other has gone even further to study at the University of Edinburgh. So yes, it's all been a bit bittersweet and I'm still getting used to being a threesome at home... I have to admit that I did spend a couple of days after both left moping around and feeling rather sorry for myself, eating too much chocolate and watching too much Netflix... Fortunately though, I have moved past this initial sadness of separation and am feeling so happy now that both my girls seem to be thriving in their new environments!... And, as you can see, I'm back at it, with yarn and hook,...
...but this time not doing regular crochet but Tunisian crochet, something I started doing before the summer and then really got into throughout the summer, using a whole bunch of woolly remnant yarn, all sorts of odds and ends,...
...and a 12 mm Tunisian crochet hook and cable to make a rug, measuring about 1 m by 1.7 m -- why a rug?... Well, our floors at the lake are still unfinished and regularly give me splinters, so rugs are definitely a good thing!...
I used the Tunisian Simple Stitch to make the rug, and had so much fun changing yarn and colours as I went along that, well, I started another one which I'm working on now...
You can see the two different sides of this new rug of mine above and below, which brings me to one of the things I like the best about the Tunisian Simple Stitch, especially when used with multiple yarn strands: there is no right side or wrong side as both sides work rather nicely, don't you think?!...
And if you're curious as to what yarn I used, I really only used what I had lying around (no new purchases allowed for this project!) as you can tell by the mishmash below...
I hope you've had a good start to your month of September... I should be back soon with more crafty pleasures -- thanks for popping by!
