...a garden, a lake, a crochet hook, some yarn, and the sound of a zillion humming bees -- 'love summertime!... I've decided to try my hand at crocheting some rugs for our lake cottage after being inspired by this pattern book, as well as being tired of getting splinters from our unfinished plywood floor in my feet and fingers (when picking things up); we are thinking of finally putting in wood flooring at the lake this winter (fingers crossed!)...
Now, I'm very proud of myself: I did not go out and buy yarn for my rug-making but instead used this retro yarn which I found in a thrift shop a while back - Yay!... If you are of a certain vintage like me, you might remember that this type of bulky yarn (100% wool) was used to make these types of sweaters...
As you can see above, this wool has a rather natural and rugged quality to it which might seem a bit rough and scratchy to some when made up into a sweater, but is absolutely lovely to walk on with bare feet when made into a rug!...
I opted for a chunky basket weave pattern very well explained in the pattern book and, after having used up a good part of my skeins, am very pleased with the way my little rug is turning out; the bulkiness of the wool added to the lovely relief resulting from the basket weave motif makes it a delight to the soles of the feet!...
I should finish it in a day or two and I will make sure to show you the completed rug in a post here, or on my Instagram and Facebook pages, which I will probably be using more due to my limited internet access while at the lake. I do have more of this same type of vintage bulky wool I'm using to make this rug albeit in different colours, so I think I will also start on another little rug soon! 'Hope your July is going swimmingly so far, and thanks so much for popping by!...
Love the pattern you're using. It will be great!!
