...I cannot believe that it's already mid-March and spring is upon us (well, at least in our neck of the woods...)... My garden has been beckoning me for the last while as it's been warm and sunny here; I finally made it out to the lake this weekend where I did some much needed weeding and soil-turning in my veggie garden, as well as some tree planting around our property. And that, I must admit, is as far as my forays into the garden have gone this year as it seems like cushion covers have overtaken my life!... Well, at least that's what it's felt like lately...
Let me explain... I have a lot of fabric, much of it I think is rather beautiful and very special as a fair amount of it is vintage; given though that I have been collecting fabric for a good twenty years now, I really haven't used much of it yet. Why is that? Well, simply put, I treasure it so in its uncut pristine form, especially the one-of-a-kind vintage stuff (I get all giddy when I find pieces that still have the original handwritten price tags on them!), that I have a hard time cutting into such sheer loveliness...
But the time has now come for me to do just that: I have much too much of these lovely textiles at present, hidden away in dark corners and piled up high on shelves where no one can see and enjoy them... So, what to make with it all this pretty cloth?...
We-l-l-l-l, what is one of the easiest and fastest way to refresh the look of a room? Update your cushion collection of course! A quick reshuffle of existing pillows, with perhaps a few new ones thrown into the grouping, can do wonders to a tired-looking room, don't you think?!...
So with cushions on my mind, I have been digging very deeply into my fabric stash (without any reservations I might add...), and pulling out tons of lovely prints of varied textures and contents and stacking them into a "potential cushion cover pile". Now, to make all this cushion-cover-making much more fun, I decided to use different fabric for both sides of the covers. This then required another pile of fabrics: complementing solids and geometric weaves, also with many textures and contents so as to make it even more fun... I decided to keep my cover designs simple and contemporary, without any frills or gimmicks and with just a concealed zipper sewn into one of the sides -- I said to myself, let the fabrics speak for themselves!...
As you can see judging from this post, I have already put a fair bunch of them together, happily mixing and matching as I go along; I have also started to take photos of them in order to start listing them in my Etsy shop, a bit of an enormous task right now because of how many I've already amassed!... If you're curious, I have already stocked my shop with a handful (covers without inserts) but,...
...as of tomorrow, I have to temporarily close my shop for a couple of weeks: I'm off on a little spring break adventure with my family about which I hope to post about, here and there given good internet access, on my Instagram page.
