...when I used to make these girls' ruffle skirts a while back, I gradually realized that, with each new one I made, the fabric I most enjoyed choosing was not that of any of the ruffles, but that of the hidden panel on which all the ruffles were sewn onto. It would usually be the last fabric I chose for a particular skirt, but the most fun because it created an element of surprise; you could only discover this hidden detail if you lifted one of the ruffles or the skirt was spun in...
As I kept making more of these skirts, I think I got bolder with my hidden panel choices (very unlike the coordinating solid-coloured panels I would use when I first started making the skirts!) and let myself have more fun with it, endeavouring at times to add a bit of a "granny" mismatched look to it all... I probably had a huge smile on my face whenever I felt I had found the perfect imperfect fabric match!
Well, I've been having a similar kind of fun with my cuffed cushion covers: if you take the cottage cushion in the forefront...
...and look under its ribbed cuff,...
...you'll see that it is lined with a pretty vintage ditsy floral which reminds me of fabric from my childhood and which, I think, adds to what I would call the "snug as a bug in a rug" look of the cushion...
In my mind, this hidden detail gives the cushion cover a touch of whimsy because it's a bit unexpected, but fun; it's certainly not a necessary detail because I could have simply hemmed the cuff at the point where the ribbing is attached... but where would the fun be in that?!
I hope you've enjoyed this little glimpse inside a cushion cover... If you would like to see what's hidden under the cuff of the other cushions on the sofa above, please pop by again as I will show more of these cushions in my next posts...Thanks for visiting!...
Loved hearing about these little hidden gems! You do beautiful work!

Such a pretty hidden detail! A bit like when I make a pair of trousers for P, I use a fun pocket lining... not something that anyone generally sees but it makes me - and those in the know - smile! I would be happy knowing that my cushion innards were as pretty as this...
