blossom time...

 

 

...Vancouver, where I live, is a city known for its cherry blossom trees; views all over the city of the many blooming cherry trees against the backdrop of snowy-peaked mountains (not this year though due to a very mild winter!) in the springtime can be quite stunning. To celebrate the annual event of its 40,000 cherry trees in bloom, the city even hosts a cherry blossom festival which takes place in the month of April. You can spot these glorious trees all over the city; we have some very close to our house which, at this very moment, are in full bloom....

 

 

A little while back, I bought some yardage of a lovely cotton print covered with cherry blossom branches thinking that it would be fitting to make pillowcases with it when the cherry trees are in bloom. While a few Aprils have gone by since then and I kept forgetting to do so, I finally remembered this April and made one...

 

 

While it took me a bit of trial and error to finally settle on the colour of its crocheted trim, I ended up opting for a lovely "sable" colour which is a blend of beige and grey with the tiniest hint of green; I think this colour does a nice job of bringing out the very yummy colours of the cherry blossom pattern...

 

 

So I plunked a pillow with the finished pillowcase on an old chair I've placed by the front door and had a bit of fun doing some spring "decorating"...

 

 

...which only really involved changing the painting hanging above the chair!...

 

 

But don't you think that changing a painting can really change the look of a corner in your house?!...

 

 

Now that was fun, so thank you lovely cherry blossom trees for the inspiration and for bringing a touch of spring into my home!... If you're at all interested, I will be listing some of these cherry blossom pillowcases in my Etsy shop in about a week or so... ouch!...

 

 

...is what I've been saying every morning lately when getting out of bed because of pain in my lower hip (in the buttock region) and stiffness in the outside of my leg; my doctor diagnosed me as having bursitis in the hip as well as a very tight IT band (the ligament that runs down the outside of the thigh from the hip to the shin) and suggested seeing a physiotherapist which I've started doing... So, needless to say, my days haven't been very productive of late as I've been trying to cope with this annoying and stubborn pain in the butt which is especially pronounced when I get out of bed in the morning and up from being seated for longer durations. I'm really hoping that my visits to the physio help make things better...(If you should know of any good remedies, I'd love to hear about them so please do share them with me!)

I am still working on the things I mentioned in my last post except that I'm doing it all at half-speed now... I'm slowly putting together some new pillowcases with some yummy new fabric and yarn; hopefully, I'll have some to show you by next week... As of tomorrow, I hope to start assembling some more of these fabric bundles to list in my Etsy shop. And, as far as the above patchwork which I showed you a snippet of in my last post, I am slowly putting together a longer blog post where I will describe it and show it to you in its entirety. Right now though, I've curtailed my computer time so as not to stay seated for too long which means that my blogging will take a bit of a back seat in the next little while... (Perhaps I'll just keep my posts short and (hopefully) sweet!) Thanks for popping by for a visit and I hope to be back soon enough...

...I hope this post finds you enjoying a pleasant spring-filled Easter weekend with family and friends, even if there may be no signs of spring when you look out your windows as I know it's snowing right now in some parts of our country!... I've taken a little break this last week from my usual pursuits as I've had some lovely friends visiting us from Montreal; prior to their visit, I also spent some time spring cleaning our house, doing some much-needed de-crusting and de-cluttering... I will be back next week with some new stuff like what you see above (yes, another patchwork!) and I'm starting to put together some new crochet-trimmed pillowcases which I'll be showing you soon; I'll also be listing some more of these fabric bundles in my Etsy shop next week (thanks so much to all of you who purchased and showed interest in all the ones I recently listed!)... In the meantime, I hope you have a very Happy Easter!
