...I feel like it's been a while! Due to the flurry of activity brought on by four kids finishing up their school year, I haven't had too much one-on-one with my computer of late. I have to confess though, that I've also been trying to stay away on purpose in order to finish up some sadly neglected projects... and I did -- Yay! I finished two of these coverlets that were patiently waiting for their binding to be sewn on and made the blankets above out of two patchwork tops that I had sewn several months ago.
I pieced these tops around Christmas time when the days were gray and I put together the brighter one first (on the left in the first picture); looking back at it, I think I was craving color in a bad way to make up for the drabness of rainy winter weather! When I stepped away from it and looked at it after I had sewn it together, I had a moment of thinking I had overdone the color bit, and decided to put another top together in a more toned down version (I actually have a theory that my craving for color is very dependent on where I'm at in my monthly cycle -- for example, what may seem crazy bright on some days may seem perfectly normal on others!... have you noticed that about yourself?)
I purposely call these "blankets" and not "quilts" because I didn't quilt them; the patchworks tops are simply backed by cotton chenille and then the edges are trimmed with ric rac. I was thinking of tying the two layers together, but decided against it because, given that these two blankets are destined for a local shop and could be used as large baby blankets (they can also be used as simple throws), I thought it best not to have any loose little bits that could potentially break off in the hands of an under-three-year-old. However, I do find that the blankets seem to lie rather well without any quilting or tying, most likely because of their smaller size and the ric rac stitch line which edges them.

I do hope you're enjoying a sunny and warm start to summer -- we haven't had a lot of sun nor warmth lately, but we are hopeful that things are about to change!...
