As you can see, I have sewn the top of my quilted blanket and I am very pleased with the result. I have to say that, in this case, I had a definite idea as to what I wanted this patchwork to look like and, maybe even more to the point, what feelings and images I wanted it to evoke in me, and I think I succeeded... Before starting, I was a bit concerned about piecing together very different fabric weights and types but it turned out to be no problem at all. In fact, I actually enjoyed sewing it all together because I kept being reminded of those 70's quilts that I've seen before which were made up of a crazy assortment of polyesters, from slinky to jersey...
Oh yeah, about the feelings and images: warmth, indulgence, nostalgia - being swaddled in blankets and furs in a horse-pulled troika racing through a snowy landscape with white birches in the distance...(yup, I do think it's time again to pull out my well-worn VHS copy of Dr. Zhivago...) Perhaps I should also introduce some fur (faux fur of course) into this design - maybe a furry cushion with some kind of applique or trim...hmmm...Am I getting a bit carried away?!...
the colours and prints together look amazing...so vibrant! Can't wait to see the finished quilt!

Thanks for the lovely comment! I'm looking forward to finishing the quilt and posting some photos - I just received some beautiful brown chenille to use as backing...Now, I just have to find the time to do it?!...
